During the month of January, Randolph Schools will once again be hosting a donation drive to support the Cannon Falls American Legion and VFW Military Box Event. Now through January 23rd, you may send donations to school with your child. Items will be given to the Legion/VFW to be used in care packages sent to US service men and women deployed and stationed at military installations in the US and throughout the world.
We will also have donation boxes available on January 20th during our True Blue Celebration for your convenience.
The most coveted items to receive in care packages include:
1) Beef Jerky
2) Unscented Baby or Dude Wipes
3) Unscented Tampons (women appreciate them and they are useful for plugging wounds during training and/or combat)
4) Single Serve Ramen and Mac & Cheese Cups
5) Card Games (such as variations of Uno) or small travel games
Other highly desired items include: Cliff Bars (or other protein bars that are not chocolate covered), Pringles (the can protects the chips), nuts (flavored almonds, cashews, and pistachios are always appreciated), trail mix (especially varieties containing M&Ms), hunting/fishing/gun magazines, crossword/sudoku magazines, peanut butter crackers, Chex Mix, gum and candy (not chocolate- nothing that melts), socks with reinforced toes (regulation green), and toiletry items. *Please note* NO soap or lotion- nothing scented!
We will also be accepting monetary donations (cash or checks made out to The American Legion Post 142) to help defray the costs of shipping the care packages. Each package costs approximately $11-$18 (depending on destination) to ship.
Additionally, if you have an active duty family member or friend deployed or stationed at a US military installation (within the United States or around the world), and would like him or her to receive a care package, please send Mrs. Carlin an email with name and address no later than January 15th!
Please contact Heather Carlin at carlinh@district195.org with questions.
Thank you for your support with this project.
