John Aloysius Peine, age 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 17, 2022, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings, Minnesota. John was born on December 20, 1923, on the family farm in Empire Township to Henry Sr. and Margaret (Wollmering) Peine. He was the first born of ten children. He attended school at Hampton District 39.

John was united in marriage to Helen Bauer on October 12, 1949, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. They soon settled on their farm near Cannon Falls and lived there until the past year when they moved to Regina Assisted Living in Hastings. They raised eight children together. John was a father, life-long farmer, and lover of all things John Deere. He started farming in his early days working the fields with horse and plow. He participated in his last harvest this fall using a combine with two seats and automatic steering! John was proud to see his farming legacy carried on. His faith was also important to him. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he ushered until recent years, and he was the longest standing member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4481, in Cannon Falls—76 years! John and Helen enjoyed dancing, Saturday night dates, and Twins baseball (although he had a special affection for the New York Yankees). He and Helen also enjoyed traveling. They made a trip out west every winter and went to Montana every summer to Wertheimer Ranch to buy cattle.

John is survived by his children, Jim (Sandy) Peine, Joyce (Bob) McBeath, Gery (Joni) Peine, Renee Davis, Joanne (Chris) Ruttger, Roger (Julie) Peine, Jeff Peine, and Sue (Jeremy) Seykora; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brother Lloyd (Lenore) Peine; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Peine, Karleen Peine, Jan Weber, Louise Kimmes, Susie DuShane, Emma Doyle, Tillie Johnson, and Pat Bauer; brother-in-law Ron Greene; and by many other relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen, who passed away in August, just 2 months short of their 73rd anniversary; sisters Mary Rose Feidt, Marjorie Beissel, Vi Weber, and Irma Greene; brothers Henry Peine Jr., Lawrence Peine, Ervin Peine, and Kenneth “Butch” Peine; and grandchildren Kevin, Craig, and Noelle.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings with Rosary beginning at 6:45 pm and one hour prior to Mass.
