Randolph School to Hold Community Meetings on The Proposed Local Operating Referendum

Posted

The Randolph School District plans to hold three public information meetings open to the community about the referendum this fall. The meetings are scheduled for September 22, October 13th and October 22nd. All meetings will be held in the school commons.

Randolph Schools are asking the community to approve a $450.00 per pupil increase in student funding through the operational levy, which would total about $390,000.00 each year in additional revenue for a term of ten years. An operational levy is for the daily operations of the school district, which includes payroll, utilities, supplies, technology, etc. It is not for building construction. State funding has not kept up with inflation and costs associated with the unfunded mandates by the state. Randolph has been able to hold requests for additional funding since covid. One driver of needed funding is the trend of students choosing alternate learning paths like online and homeschooling, resulting in smaller incoming class sizes in the area. These trends will continue to affect enrollment statewide. Residents will learn more at these Public Information Meetings and can address any concerns at that time. As part of the operational levy, agricultural land and buildings are not taxed. Only residential properties along with commercial and industrial properties. On farms, only the house, garage, and one acre are taxed. For a home valued at $350,000, the estimated tax increase would be about $21.00 per month. A full table of the various home values and potential increases will be available at the presentation. The referendum coincides with this year's general election. Randolph Schools remain one of the lowest among area schools for per pupil levy funding.
